LON is a city code, not one airport
LON searches across London, but a result can use Heathrow, Gatwick or another airport. Compare actual arrival and departure codes rather than the London label alone. An airport change needs a new calculation of connection time, transfers, entry formalities and baggage handling.
Heathrow: choose the train for your destination
Heathrow describes the Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line and Heathrow Express. Compare the station nearest your hotel, changes and ticket conditions. Train time alone does not describe the journey from the aircraft gate to your accommodation. Check the first and last services before relying on a late arrival.
Gatwick: check your terminal
Gatwick’s rail station is at the South Terminal, with transport connecting the terminals. Compare Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Southern according to your destination station, then check the ticket for the chosen service and time. Different trains or ticket conditions can affect the final cost on the same journey.
A lower fare can require a longer transfer
Add rail or coach tickets to the flight and baggage cost when choosing another airport. Plan an alternative if the final train departs before you finish arrival formalities. Compare a return through one airport with an itinerary using two airports and include the time spent transferring.
Use official entry and transit checks
Visa and electronic travel authorisation requirements depend on nationality, documents, purpose and route. Remaining airside differs from passing border control. Use the UK government checker and confirm the connection arrangements with the airline. European residence or an onward ticket does not automatically resolve the requirement.
Plan the return separately
The return can use another terminal, airport or connection. Check how to reach the departure airport and the check-in deadline, and keep an alternative if transport is disrupted. Retain fare conditions and journey details and check passenger names against travel documents before payment.
